SUPPORT COMMUNICATION - CUSTOMER ADVISORY

Document ID: c03544576

Version: 1

CUSTOMER ADVISORY: HP IBRIX X9000 Storage - File system creation or expansion may hang on the X9720/X9730 platform
NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2012-10-25

Last Updated: 2012-10-25

DESCRIPTION

During file system creation or expansion on the X9720/X9730 platform of the HP IBRIX X9000 Storage product family, the process may hang and never complete. This is most likely to occur when creating or expanding a file system that has more segments than file serving nodes.

SCOPE

This issue occurs on the X9720 and X9730 platforms running 6.1.x versions of HP IBRIX X9000 Storage software.

RESOLUTION

Depending on the platform, the following creation or expansion recommendations apply:

  • X9720 - When creating or expanding a file system, only use half of the number of segments as there are file serving nodes. For example, if you have four file serving nodes, only create or expand the file system two segments at a time. Once the two segments complete, you can expand the file system with two more segments and repeat until the process is completed.

  • X9730 - When creating or expanding a file system, use the same number of segments as there are file serving nodes. For example, if you have four file serving nodes, only create or expand the file system four segments at a time. Once the four segments complete, you can expand the file system with four more segments, and repeat until the process is completed.
